Let that heart break

I recently saw a poem by Yang Jin that brought me into reflection. I quote it here(with the change of pronouns):

You will meet the person from your dreams.

If you are blessed, your heart will be broken by her.

Please remember, do not resist it.

Allow her.

If you are lucky,

She loves you back.

If you are blessed,

She tears your heart apart.

Please remember, do not resist.

Allow her.

My friend, you have every reason to cry,

but you do not know it all.

You only have

eyes to see,

ears to hear,

hands to touch,

nose to smell.

How can you see the truth

by peeking through a keyhole?

Allow her to send you to hell,

crack you open,

burn who you think you are.

Then you will really see

She was what you've been praying for.

She is a gift from God.

She is perfect.

So are you,

So is this world.

You know, we are told to protect the heart, build walls, vet carefully, keep our tender parts in safes... and all of that. With this, I reflect on the keyhole part. So much of life spent crouched there, with one eye to a narrow aperture that doesn't see the whole room. The real breakthrough is what tears the door off.

A friend of mine asked me the other day why love hurts. Well, maybe it's the other way around. The hurt is love doing its work.

The heart that stays unbroken stays small really!

We gotta allow the 'her' or 'him' and then look up from the keyhole.
